About Domain Rating Checker

Enter a domain such as toolsforweb.com to see its current Domain Rating (DR): a 0–100 score from Ahrefs that compares the strength of a website's backlink profile with other sites on a logarithmic scale, so each extra point is harder to earn than the last. The result also shows the domain that was checked and the date of the check. Domain Rating describes whole domains, so enter the domain only, without https:// or a path (a leading www. is dropped; other subdomains are kept as typed and rated on their own). You can switch between DR4, Ahrefs' current version (the default), and the older DR3. Our server sends the domain to Ahrefs after a human-verification check; the Ahrefs API key never reaches your browser. Domain Rating by Ahrefs.

Domain Rating Checker FAQ

What is Domain Rating?

Domain Rating (DR) is a score from 0 to 100 that Ahrefs calculates from the backlink profile of a whole domain. It is Ahrefs' own metric. A higher number means a stronger profile by Ahrefs' measure, and because the scale is logarithmic, moving from 70 to 71 takes far more link strength than moving from 20 to 21.

Is Domain Rating a Google ranking factor?

No. Google does not use Ahrefs' Domain Rating, and a high DR does not guarantee rankings. It is a third-party estimate of backlink strength that is useful for comparing sites, not a measure of how Google treats a site. Search rankings depend on many other signals, including how well a page answers the query.

Why can I only enter a domain, not a URL?

Domain Rating rates a whole domain, not an individual page, so every page on example.com shares one figure, so there is nothing to look up for a single page. Type example.com rather than https://www.example.com/blog/post. A leading www. is dropped, but other subdomains such as blog.example.com are sent as typed. Under DR4 a subdomain has its own Domain Rating, based on the backlinks pointing to it, so it can differ a lot from the main domain's.

Why is the figure different from what I see in Ahrefs?

Ahrefs updates its data continuously, and the date shown is the day our server fetched the figure; results can be reused for up to 24 hours. Pick the same version, DR4 or DR3, that your Ahrefs report uses: DR3 often gives a subdomain its root domain's rating, while DR4 rates it on its own backlinks, so the numbers differ. A different date can also change it. Ahrefs' own interface is the reference if the two disagree.

What changed between DR3 and DR4?

Ahrefs introduced DR4 in 2026. It is still based only on backlinks, but gives more weight to links from sites and subdomains that Ahrefs estimates get organic search traffic, so far fewer domains count toward a rating. Subdomains now get their own score instead of inheriting the root domain's. Ahrefs says about half as many sites receive a DR4 score as a DR3 score. To see both numbers for one domain at once, use the DR3 vs DR4 Checker.

Why might the tool be temporarily unavailable?

The tool relies on Ahrefs' free Domain Rating service, so it limits how many checks one connection can run per hour and how many lookups run per day across all visitors. Recent results are reused for a short time. If a limit is reached, the tool says so; try again later.

What is sent to the server and to Ahrefs?

The domain you enter is sent to our server and then to Ahrefs, which returns the rating. Your input is not otherwise stored by this tool. A Cloudflare Turnstile check runs first to prevent automated abuse. The Ahrefs data is shown under Ahrefs' Domain Rating license, which requires the attribution next to every figure.
