Text & Writing
Transform, inspect, and clean up prose and plain text: case conversion, word and character counts, slugify, text diffing, and live Markdown preview.
About Text & Writing
Tools for writers, students and anyone cleaning up text. Count words, characters, sentences and paragraphs with an estimated reading time; switch text between UPPER, lower, Title, sentence, camelCase and snake_case; turn a headline into a clean URL slug; and compare two versions of a document with the changes highlighted.
For drafting and layout, preview Markdown as you type and generate lorem ipsum placeholder text by paragraphs, sentences, words or list items. Everything runs in your browser, so essays, contracts and drafts you paste in are not sent anywhere.
Questions
How does the word counter count words?
It splits text on whitespace, so hyphenated words and numbers count as one word each, the same way most word processors count. Characters are shown with and without spaces.
Is text I paste into these tools private?
Yes. The counting, case conversion, diffing and Markdown preview all happen in your browser; nothing you paste is uploaded, stored or logged.
What is the difference between title case and sentence case?
Title case capitalizes the major words of a heading (A Guide to Better Writing); sentence case capitalizes only the first word and proper nouns (A guide to better writing). The case converter does both.
