About this tool

Flips a virtual coin. Press the button and the coin spins and lands on heads or tails. Flip more at once (3, 5, 10, 100 or 1,000 coins) and the result becomes a small experiment: heads and tails counts with percentages, the longest run of the same side, and every flip in order for batches up to 100. A session tally keeps score across flips until you reset it. Each flip is an exact 50/50 drawn from your browser's cryptographic random generator; the animation only shows the result.

When to use it

Settling a two-way decision or picking who goes first.
Running a best-of-three or best-of-five without a real coin to hand.
Showing students how probability and streaks behave over 100 or 1,000 flips.
Replacing a physical coin in a game that calls for one.

Questions

Is it really 50/50?

Yes. Each flip draws one fair bit from crypto.getRandomValues, so heads and tails are exactly equally likely and every flip is independent of the ones before it. A real coin is very slightly biased toward the side facing up when it is tossed; this one has no such bias.

I got heads five times in a row. Is something wrong?

No. Streaks are normal. In 100 fair flips the longest run of the same side is usually around 6 or 7. Flip 100 coins and look at the longest streak to see it for yourself. Past flips never change the odds of the next one, which is 50/50 every time.

Why isn't it exactly 50% heads over many flips?

Random results wander around the expected value. Over 1,000 flips, anything from roughly 470 to 530 heads is completely normal. The percentage gets closer to 50% as the number of flips grows, but it rarely lands exactly on it.

Can I flip more than one coin at once?

Yes. Choose up to 1,000 coins per flip. Batches show the counts, percentages and longest streak, plus each individual flip for batches of up to 100.
