About this tool
Splits a list of people into random teams. Paste names one per line (or comma-separated), then choose either how many teams you want or how many people should be on each. The names are shuffled with a fair Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by your browser's cryptographic random generator, then dealt out one at a time like cards, so team sizes never differ by more than one person. Reshuffle until you're happy and copy the result as plain text. Duplicate names are treated as different people.

Questions
What happens when the names don't divide evenly?
The extra people are spread across teams one at a time, so no team is ever more than one person bigger than another. Seven names in three teams gives teams of 3, 2 and 2, never 5, 1 and 1.
What's the difference between the two modes?
'Number of teams' fixes the team count and lets team sizes follow from it. 'People per team' fixes the size and creates as many teams as needed. With that mode, 10 names in teams of 3 makes four teams (3, 3, 2 and 2), because sizes are kept balanced rather than leaving one person alone.
Can I make random pairs?
Yes. Choose 'People per team' and enter 2. With an odd number of names, the balancing gives one team of one; if you'd rather have a group of three, set the number of teams to half the names, rounded down.
Can I balance teams by skill level?
Not automatically. The split is purely random. A simple workaround is to run it separately for each skill tier (strong players, then everyone else) with the same number of teams, and combine Team 1 with Team 1, and so on.
