About Add Page Numbers to PDF
Prints a page number on each page of a PDF. Choose the position (top or bottom; left, centre or right), the style (1, Page 1, 1 of 12 or Page 1 of 12) and the text size, then set the number the first page gets and which page to start on, so a cover page can stay blank and the next page can be numbered 1. Numbers are added as black Helvetica text half an inch from the edge, as selectable text on top of the page; the existing content is not changed, so the numbers can overlap anything already printed in that corner. On a page that is already rotated, the number is turned to match so it still reads upright. In the "of" styles the total is the last number printed, so numbering from page 2 of a 10-page file gives 1 of 9 to 9 of 9. The new file is re-opened and its page count checked before it is offered, and your original is never altered. Only these styles are offered: no Roman numerals, no different positions on odd and even pages, and no Bates numbering. Password-protected and damaged files are refused with a clear message. Everything runs in your browser; the PDF is never uploaded.

Add Page Numbers to PDF FAQ
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and numbered in your browser, and nothing is sent to a server. You can confirm this in your browser's network tab.
How do I leave the cover page without a number?
Set Start on page to 2. Page 1 stays blank, page 2 gets the number you chose for the first page (1 by default), and the count continues from there.
Can the numbers cover existing text?
They can, because they are placed half an inch from the edge of the page without checking what is already there. If a footer or header is in the way, pick a different position.
What does 1 of 12 count when I skip pages?
The total is the last number printed. If you start on page 2 of a 10-page PDF and number from 1, the pages read 1 of 9 up to 9 of 9.
Does it work on rotated or landscape pages?
Yes. The position is measured on the page as you see it, and the number is turned along with a rotated page so it reads upright. Pages turned by an angle that is not a multiple of 90 degrees are refused.
Can I use Roman numerals or different fonts?
No. The tool offers the four styles shown, in one built-in font. It adds ordinary numbers and the words Page and of.
Can I add numbers to a password-protected PDF?
No. A password-protected file is refused. Remove the password in the program that created it, then load the file again.
Is there a limit?
One PDF up to 100 MB, because the work happens in your device's memory.
