About Add Watermark to PDF

Stamps a line of text across the pages of a PDF, such as CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, SAMPLE or a name. Choose a diagonal layout (the text runs at 45 degrees across the middle of the page) or a flat horizontal one, then the largest text size, the colour (grey, red, blue or black) and the opacity from very light to solid. The text is centred on each page as you see it and is made smaller when it would not fit, so a long word on a small page still stays inside the edges; on a page that is already rotated, the watermark is turned to match so it reads the same way. It can mark every page or only the pages you type, using ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-. The watermark is drawn on top of the existing page as text in the built-in Helvetica font, so it covers whatever is underneath it at that opacity, and the existing content is not changed. It uses one font only, which limits the text to Latin letters, digits and common punctuation; other scripts are rejected with a message instead of printed as blanks. It is a visible label, not protection: anyone with a PDF editor can select it, delete it or draw over it, so use a password or access controls if the file must stay private. The new file is re-opened and its page count checked before it is offered, and your original is never altered. There is no image or logo watermark, no tiling and no behind-the-text layer. Password-protected and damaged files are refused with a clear message. Everything runs in your browser; the PDF is never uploaded.

When to use Add Watermark to PDF

Marking a contract, proposal or report as CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT before it is shared.
Putting SAMPLE or PREVIEW across a document you are showing but not handing over.
Adding a recipient's name to a copy so you can tell which copy leaked.
Labelling a scan or form with a status such as COPY or NOT FOR RESALE.

Add Watermark to PDF FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and stamped in your browser, and nothing is sent to a server. You can confirm this in your browser's network tab.

Can someone remove the watermark?

Yes. The watermark is added to the page as ordinary text, so anyone with a PDF editor can select and delete it. Treat it as a visible label, not as security. If the content must be protected, restrict who receives the file.

Will the watermark cover my text?

It is drawn on top of the page, so it overlaps whatever is underneath. A lower opacity such as 15 or 30 percent keeps the page readable through it; solid hides what is behind the letters.

Why can't I use some characters?

The tool draws the text with the standard Helvetica font built into every PDF reader, which covers Latin letters, digits, accented letters and common punctuation. Other scripts and symbols are refused instead of being printed as blanks.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes. Choose Only the pages I type and enter numbers and ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-. A page listed twice is marked once.

Can I add a logo or an image watermark?

No. This tool adds text only. It also does not tile the text across the page or place it behind the content.

Does it work on landscape or rotated pages?

Yes. The text is centred on the page as you see it and turned with a rotated page. Pages turned by an angle that is not a multiple of 90 degrees are refused.

Can I watermark a password-protected PDF?

No. A password-protected file is refused. Remove the password in the program that created it, then load the file again.

Is there a limit?

One PDF up to 100 MB, because the work happens in your device's memory. The watermark text can be up to 60 characters.
